HYBRID Company car tax

I have a Hybrid company car with a private fuel allowance, so all fuel is paid by my employer.
I can charge my car at work with the company charge points, but if I charge the car at home I will pay for this. Are there any HMRC rules or benefits if I charge the car at home?  Thanks

    No.
You pay BIK for the car plus BIK for the fuel card (petrol).
There is no BIK for electricity (as electricity is not fuel according to HMRC).

You get free petrol, and free electricity at work. Why on earth would you want to charge at home?

I also have a fuel card, but in my case the company pays for the fuel and then charges me monthly (Xp per mile) for personal miles. (Business miles are recorded in an app and are deducted from the monthly total, with the balance of personal miles deducted from my salary). As such I only pay BIK for the car, not for fuel.

My new car (still waiting for it to arrive) will be a PHEV so I'm waiting for my company to advise how they'll handle the electric portion. (There is no workplace charging infrastructure currently, so charging would either have to be either at home or out-and-about). If they don't pull their fingers out I'm minded to tell them to stuff the fuel card and I'll buy my own "fuel", then simply expense business miles (as we always used to do before we got fuel cards).

Charging a PHEV can cost more per mile on public chargers than ICE juice.

Given the best speed you will be able to charge a PHEV is roughly 7kW & a lot are only 3.2kW.

You're right about the charge rate - my new Volvo will only charge at the lower rate, as it is limited by the car.

Not sure about your cost assertion though ... cost is per unit (kWh) not time, so the rate of charge only determines the time to reach a given charge capacity, not the cost to reach it. 10 kWh (for example) is 10 kWh, whether it takes 15 minutes or 3 hours.

Some public charge points have (or had) a fee per charge, not metered.  Not sure whether any remain like that.
