Car Insurance from By Miles - any good?

my car insurance is due. It is only a small honda jazz and I only do around 1500 miles a year. My LV renewal quote is £400 and all other quotes are between 500 & 600 which is way too much. I have full NCD and no other negatives. Been driving for 50 years
I found By Miles insurance which charges for the mileage you do and the total cost if I did the 1500 miles, is £238. What I am asking is if anyone has used them, are they a good company or should I steer clear?
Thank you everyone

I've no knowledge of this company but have you tried the comparison sites for PAYG car insurance, there are a few of them to choose from.

From what I have read their policies are underwritten by the likes of Axa, Mulsanne and Zurich, so some of the big hitters in the business.

You have to have a "black box" fitted to your car and some cars can't or don't comunicate with them or haven't yet been tested, so it depends on your car.

I believe their policies can be quite basic with a lot of regular cover, like windscreen and key cover, car recovery after an accident all need to be added on at an extra cost if you want them.
They also don't cover belonging in the car and don't guarantee repairs like most other policies.

You need to do some like for like comparisons to see if they are cost effective as I would guess if someone put your window through, stole and dumped your car that needed recovery and ran off with your Raybans out of the glovebox. it wouldn't look as cheap.

I'd start by increasing the annual mileage to 5,000, rather than 1500.

Keeping it simple, I’ve been with them for 3 years and just renewed for a forth.
There are 2 fees, First is for it to be insured on the drive and then a per mile charge mine is 5.4p a mile.
Capped at 150 miles a day charge. For me £8.10 max, I Do a  350 mile trip once a month or so.
Charged at the end of the month like a mobile contact.

Have you read the quote correctly , People get confused about it.
Dont want you to get a nasty shock.
    Mine was £244 plus 5.4p a mile.
2 other points, If you take out the policy and cancel within 14 days you are still charged £50 for them setting up the OBD2 dongle.
There is a £50 charge if you don’t return the dongle when you move insurers, they provide free returns envelope.

The cover is not basic at all, it’s fully comp, protected bonus, hire car, windscreen cover.
    Legal and breakdown are extra.

This year it’s underwritten by Zurich.

When you get a quote it gives a parked up cost and then a per mile cost (3.1p in this case).

The site then gives a price estimate based on the parked up cost plus miles expected x per mile rate (capped at 150 miles per day or 10k in a year). So provided the OP has used the latter price and not just the parked up cost it should include both (although the latter part is variable).

Looks like you have to pay the parked up cost up front and the miles monthly.

    Cover shows as including:
    • Your car, which is covered against accidents, vandalism, fire or theft
    • Your car's contents, which are also covered against accidents, vandalism, fire or theft
    • Damage to your car's windscreen
    • Medical costs following an accident
    • Injury to any passengers or any damage to any property in your car
    • Driving in certain countries outside of the UK (though we should tell you that this cover is pretty basic)
No claims is apparently protected as default

That initial quote though is before you go through and add the drivers, history, excess etc. I assume the OP's quote is after having done all of this and not just the headline figure?
