Debit or credit

My daughter and partner are going to the US in August. Previously when I visited hotels would make charge on credit card as a deposit surety.
She does not have credit card and uses Monzo. Would this work in same way ?

Needs to be a credit card , the deposit is ring fenced until checkout. Cannot be done with a debit card

It could be worth contacting the hotel and asking if they will accept a Cash deposit - if not - as Browntoa says above they will need a Credit Card - also many hotels in the USA have a min age for one of the people to be 21 to check in (New York and Vegas especially)
Some large hotels will allow a debit card eg MGM Grand says - A security deposit of $100 per day will be required upon check in, with a maximum of $400 for credit cards and debit cards.
And finally, watch out for Resort fees - again New York and Vegas mainly but also Orlando
You can check for them here https://www.resortfeechecker.com/
Apart from that its a breeze lol

Thanks, that what I thought. I've recommended Halifax clarity.

Thanks mattr, $100/day !. Think I paid that for the week last time  :D
She will scrape in on the age limit but those resort fees need checking.

Fine, if your daughter has decent enough credit history on file to be accepted for the Clarity. If not, and the application is declined, it would look negative when subsequently applying for a card that's easier to obtain for the less creditworthy, so it might be better to apply for such a card first. See the MSE advice article.
Paying the hotel bill on checkout can probably be done with Monzo, instead of a credit card used for the security deposit if it has non-sterling fees.
    Evolution, not revolution

I think it the Security deposit she concerned about. She does have a Halifax account so that should be a point in her favour.
I note on the site 118 118 have a card with no fees but higher costs, this may be easier to obtain provided it paid off.

Resort fees are a total con, and can be eye watering and are not optional ie. they can't say they don't want to use those facilities.  Most UK tour operators simply state that additional charges may need to be paid locally but carefully avoid saying how much.

Just one example in Waikiki, Honolulu

Resort Fee and Other Mandatory Fees

Guests may be required to pay the following mandatory fees:
    • Resort fee: $41.29 per room, nightly

    The resort fee includes:

    • Beach loungers
    • Internet access
    • Phone calls
    • Lending library access

Other Fees at Hilton Waikiki Beach

    These fees are not mandatory.

You may be charged the following fees by the property at check-in, checkout, or time of purchase.

    • Breakfast fee: between $18 and $25 per person (approximately)
    • Fee for in-room wireless Internet: $10.95 nightly
    • Fee for in-room wired Internet: $10.95 nightly
    • Valet parking fee: $45 daily (in/out privileges)

Those fees could put a serious dent in your holiday funds !
That is where a cheap break end up anything but.
