That is a really good help, thanks very much Spoonie_Turtle.  Maybe, although, as you explain, it is only a draft at present, I will be eligible for the Broader Group Warm Home Discount after all.  I appreciate the time you have taken to read through things so thoroughly and feed back the really most important points.

I'll post back here if I hear anything.  I appreciate the help the Government is already giving us - it's just that the proposed increases are overwhelming and like nothing we have ever known before.

Indeed with an income of around £12.7K the thought of paying at least a third of it in fuel bills is terrifying

Yes, JackieO - it's awful.  I accept that being a bit above  the threshold where I'm eligible for any means tested benefits, I don't qualify.

The alternative seems harsh and, unless things change, modest (hard earned) savings will soon 'go.'  Although there is the possibility of losing  safety net savings/rainy day fund, there may be no alternative.

Let's hope the Government will intervene in a fair and meaningful way.  As I said before, I am grateful for the help already given  but the situation we are facing is really dreadful.

Looking at what Truss is saying, any future help (besides the schemes announced) seems to be aimed at those paying tax and extremely limited, the effect of high energy costs on people on benefits will be completely ignored.  But of course its all rather vague, don't know what the reality will be.  Looking at a Martin Lewis clip yesterday, he was practically in tears.  Doesn't seem much chance Truss won't be the next PM though.
