Energy Grant and Prepayment Meters... How does it all Work?

Hello!
In June, I will be moving into a rental flat with a prepayment meter for electricity (Council Tax and gas are paid directly by the landlord). This will be my first time using prepayment meters, so am new to them in general, but I am most concerned as to how it will work with the government grant. How will I get this if I do not pay the energy company via direct debit/ bank transfer? Or will I not be eligible as I will have only been in the property for a few months when it is given out in October?
Also, due to the current circumstances, I know I won't get any better deal by switching. However, should I still find out and contact the current supplier before I move in?
Thanks!

No one knows how the £400 payment will be made to pre-pay customers yet, that is still being consulted on.TheGeordieGeographer said:Hello!

You will need to contact the existing supplier when you move in, you give them the opening reading on the meter and you tell them you want to be put onto their SVR, not onto any of their tariffs which will be higher than the SVR.1 -
I'm on prepayment as well. The meter is not under my name so no idea if I'll ever see any penny.TheGeordieGeographer said:Hello!

In the meantime my landlord has increased my rent (he pays for gas only) but he'll probably get this money on top of my rent (he said my increase was for the gas increase)0 -
The £400 payment is going to electricity account holders so if your landlord only pays for gas it sounds like you should get this.borderline said:

Is it not under your name but the account and bills go to your address? In which case the amount will be directly sent to your meter if prepayment or issued as vouchers sent to the bill payers address.borderline said:

Vouchers will be given, like they do for WHD. I believe they are valid for that meter only so no benefit to your landlord keeping them & not passing them onborderline said:
