Electric motor repair

Options
Clarke sliding mitre saw developed fault - motor runs for a few seconds then fuse blows.

Been back to Machine Mart who quoted more for repair than replacement machine.

Does anyone know where I can get motor repaired  - Warrington / Liverpool area.

Many thanks

Is there anything serviceable on a motor like that, except the brushes?  If it’s just that, you can buy the brushes for a fiver, and there’s videos showing how to fit them.

    Depends on the model, obviously.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Worth replacing the brushes if you can source some.

What do you mean by 'then fuse blows'? Do you mean the fuse in the plug goes, your RCD trips (or is it a 110V saw?)

Unless there is something really obvious that is causing a fault to ground (in the case it's the RCD), sourcing and fitting a compatible motor is probably almost as much money and much more hassle than a new saw.

Agree that the motor is unlikely to be serviceable, and given it's not an especially expensive saw, it's probably beyond economical repair.

I'd propose to see if you can give it away for spares, rather than tossing it into the electricals at the tip.

I've had a washing machine where brush dust build-up caused the RCD to trip.  Cleaning it off remedied the problem but I don't know how common a cause it is.

It'll probably be brushes or motor start capacitor. Both are dirt cheap easy fixes
