Final bill from EDF for Green Network Energy FIFTEEN MONTHS late.

I moved house in February 2021 just after Green Network Energy went bust.  I contacted EDF who had taken over the account and gave them my final meter readings, new address etc and asked for the bill.  I chased it up by email and then by telephone over the next seven or eight months but couldn't get any sense out of them, they didn't seem to have any record of my previous account.  I knew I owed money but they didn't seem to be aware of it. At one point they even sent me a letter with a small refund, just a couple of quid.  Eventually I thought oh well, it's their problem, and stopped trying.  Today - fifteen months after I moved - I got a letter from EDF saying I owe £375.  The worst part is, after all the delays on their part, they are saying I have to pay within 14 days or they will pass the account to a debt collection agency.  I know it's my debt, and I can just about manage to pay it, but it seems very unjust that they expect me to pay so quickly after such a long delay!  Money is tight now, I'm on the State Pension with very small savings so this is a bit of a blow, to say the least, especially with the worry of the new price increases looming.

The SoLR process is far more complicated than a simple switch of supplier. Failed suppliers tend not to have the most robust customer accounts. The SoLR is also having to deal with an insolvency administrator. That said, it really shouldn’t have taken 15 months. Sadly, the BackBilling rules will not apply but you should ask for time to pay.
