the wholesale cost of electricity is typically ~40% of your bill with other charges making up the difference

Ofgem used 4.9p/kWh for gas and 16.6p/kWh for electricity when deriving the April cap. So they could be making 6.6p if they buy the power today, rather than months or years ago. Its said they buy around 90% - 95% ahead and only gamble to make profit on a small % still too much for the ones that went Bust.

& how much would the avocado be if you asked the farm to deliver it to your home (as your energy is)?
You, as an individual, can't buy your electricity or gas direct from the producer anyway - there will always be at least one other company/level inbetween.
