what is wrong and what do i do? ford fiesta

my ford fiesta 1.3 finesse runs fine normally. but as i was driving it from cold this afternoon, i noticed that in 4th and 5th gear at about 40-50mph, it sounded like the engine was revving up when i was pressing the throttle but the speed wasnt increasing. like the gears slipping possibly? it was like the clutch was being depressed while throttling.

i didnt notice it much when i had driven for like 2 hours later.

advice please anyone?

If engine speed is increasing but not vehicle speed then slipping clutch would be a possible cause.

Indeed, almost certainly, I would guess.

Try putting in to gear with the handbrake firmly on, let the clutch bite, see if it stalls the engine.

darn. has anyone got any numbers for how much the clutch might cost?

Usually around £80-120 for a clutch, you can have one fitted at a clutch place, total around £150 I guess.
