Sold Dad BT Shares online via Equiniti as I thought they were cheaper - quite surprised for selling 220 shares cost £45 plus £65 for loss of certificate.

£110 in fees - no wonder stock brokers drive porsches.
Plenty of cheap stockbrokers these days but unfortunately this is what happens when you lose your certificates.

    Update

So have set up Hargreaves Landsdown account for my mum, all she has left is about £400 in centrica shares - no share certifcate but has the Equinity reference numbers.

How do you transfer those shares into HL. I called but HL but I was confused - they were asking for the share certificate.

    Just want to sell them.

You should be able to find an option on HL's website to initiate an in specie transfer from Equiniti without the need for a share certificate but how are those shares held with Equiniti? Wholly electronically or was there a certificate? Are you certain they were dematerialised?

    Bump

So just have Centrica shares to sell. I seem to be going round and round in circles.

The last correspondance I have is a letter from Centrica stating that my parents need to take action to receive dividends via bank account. Letter was dated July 2023.

So I have a shareholder reference and even created a Shareview account but I cannot see any holding in the shareview account.

I thought once you create a Shareview account the shareholding will be available - does that mean the shares no long exist?

Was it from Centrica or from Equiniti? Have you called Equiniti to ask? Have you missed a step with Shareview?

I have called Equiniti but the moment I say I am speaking on behalf of my mum they say they cannot advise further and I need a letter of authroty to speak on her behalf.

    It's maddening.

It makes sense if they're not your shares. Can you have your mother call?
