Balance Transfer - A couple of Quick Questions

Options
Hi,

I have a Santander Credit Card that I took out for a balance transfer some time ago that is not coming to the end of it's 0%.

I would like to transfer the balance of this card, and two others (Amex, HSBC Mastercard) onto one new card.

It's not a huge amount in total, about £3k

1) Are you able to transfer the balances of 3 separate cards onto one card?
2) Will Santander allow me to have another balance transfer with them?

Thank you all for your help with this

Regards

    1) Yes provided it has the space
    2) It is not normally possible to transfer a balance from a card in the same group (let alone bank) to another card from the same group

If the Santander card has offers though, you could move the balance from that to a new card (assuming you get one) and move the other 2 over - though keep in mind people have often reported problems with paying off Amex by balance transfer due to the 15 digit number
  • Santander won’t let you transfer a balance on their card to another one of their cards, if I understand you correctly. You’ll need to try and get another BT card, Virgin tend to do decent offers if you don’t have one of theirs. Obviously beware of getting a new card from the same ‘stable’ as any you want to transfer from.

that is correct, same as Lloyds wont accept Halifax or MBNA transfers

Yes you can transfer the balance of 3 cards onto one new credit card.

However to do so you will need a new credit card with a limit that is greater than a £3000 credit card limit. Almost all UK credit cards will only allow balance transfers of up to 95% of your overall credit limit.

And as others have said, your new card will need to be from a different card company, ie not HSBC or Santander
