Refunds on credit cards wrong interest rate

Hi, can someone please explain if this is normal, example below.
£1000 on 4% interest deal
Bought a product for £400 which would be charged at 17%. Item was not good so refunded.
As refund was quick it took the money off the 4% interest so it looks like this
£600 on 4%
£400 on 17%

When I think it should be left on
£1000 4%

I know they take it off the highest % 1st and as my £400 was not on yet..etc but should I be left paying interest on the refund?

That does not seem to make any sense, how was the refund on the account before the original transaction? Or were they unrelated transactions and you mistimed them?

OP is saying the current balances are now that whereas they should be £1000 at 4% and £0 at 17% as the item refunded was a purchase which attracted 17% interest.

@Demoki You need to contact the card provider and raise a complaint.

This happened before a couple of years ago and when I contacted them they refunded me the interest..and I will contact them about this...however how many others might of been overcharged interest in this type of situation.
