Thank you @Ultrasonic 😊Ultrasonic said:
Like most things you're far more likely to hear from the few who have issues than the majority who don't, plus lots of the issues you do hear about relate to older models rather than what would be installed now. Even when there are issues the person is generally no worse off than with a 'dumb' meter.frosch411 said:
They have offered to install but as I am renting, I'd need the landlord's permission...Ultrasonic said:Have you asked Shell about getting a smart meter installed? You could get readings taken every hour that way...
Plus, not sure how good they are really..seems like plenty of people still having issues with them
A quick Google suggests you may technically not actually need your landlord's permission but I would ask anyway.0 -
If you have an IOS (Apple) device, then pay 99p for an App entitled Meter Readings. Enter details of your tariff and meter readings as you wish. It will show your daily; weekly; monthly and annual cost; costs since last bill etc.
For a metric gas meter, I use a conversion factor of 11.22 to convert metric volume into kWh.

As the meters are the property of the energy company you could ask for one to be installed. The landlord has virtually no say over if or when a replacement meter will be installed in a property.Ultrasonic said:

The only thing the user of the meter has to do is see that the meter is giving correct readings, by that I mean that if before the smart meter was installed you used 4 kWh per day that it registers the same usage after the smart meter is installed, I wouldn't bother if it records slightly lower daily usage but I would get 30 minute readings as standard and see where any usage can be cut.Someone please tell me what money is1 -

Plus, not sure how good they are really..seems like plenty of people still having issues with themThe only issue I had after installation of smart meters was with the gas one - For some reason, it got registered as an imperial meter not metric. As a result, the supplier was overcharging me by nearly three times. Only got sorted once I'd switched to another supplier. If you do get smart meters installed, check your bills and make sure the supplier is charging based on the correct units.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
