We've bought a house that we are currently "doing up" but don't live there except at the weekend, we have a TV licence at the house we are renting currently but none for the new house. However, on the odd occasion I have used my laptop that I use when travelling to watch the odd episode on iPlayer, am I covered by my existing licence or do I need to get one at the other property?

If your laptop is powered by its own internal batteries when you are watching iPlayer, then you are covered by the licence at your other property. If you need to plug in the laptop in order to use it, you need a Licence to do that.2

..however, that does not prohibit you from watching on internal batteries, then disconnecting from iPlayer and re-charging the laptop.
Just as long as, whilst you are watching, you are on internal batteries.1 -
You've got a TV licence at home. You maybe watch iPlayer for a couple of hours at the weekend on laptop.... Just leave it at that, I wouldn't bother buying another licence just for this situation. Batteries or not.3

It originates from back in the day when you had a mains power TV at home and a battery power TV at the caravan or wherever
