They're also planning to bring it to Martin's attention in the hope that he can provide good advice on this. Is anyone aware of him having already published an article of relevance?
Who are? HMRC? where / who did you hear that from?

My daughter was also scammed by Tax Credit Ltd or rather HMRC where. An assignment form was submitted with a forged signature, home working rebate submitted and a cheque for £510 was sent to them. Initially HMRC said they were a bona fide company and she should submit all ID docs requested to them to get the money. 3 days later I contacted them on her behalf to be told by a different advisor they were aware of fraudulent claims and they have now been removed from HMRC systems. In my view HMRC are the victims and they should re issue the cheque to my daughter. This they have refused to do until the outcome of a fraud enquiry. At least they have now been removed from the HMRC system.0

Just to let anyone know who has had this issue. I took some legal advice today. I was informed that you can have the 3rd Party agent removed by writing to:
Central Agent Authorisation Team
National Insurance Contributions and Employer Office
HMRC
BX9 1AN
United Kingdom.
Ensure you request the Deed of Assignment from HMRC and if it is not your signature on the document, put in a formal complaint online to HMRC. If you do not agree with the outcome of this complaint, you can escalate it by using this link:

Update on this one - HMRC has issued a policy paper "Information for customers of Tax Credits Ltd - refunding tax reclaims’" confirming that many taxpayers who made tax repayment claims through that company will now receive their refunds directly from HMRC.
HMRC does not consider that those electronic deeds of assignment are valid and has decided to make payments directly to taxpayers involved rather than via Tax Credits Ltd as an agent.
This change in HMRC practice only applies to those taxpayers using the online process after December 2021 as HMRC are happy that the company’s paper form process was valid.
