First child passports - stages and timescales?

I sent away for two first time UK child passports at the start of May. Its taken 2 weeks for one application,  and 3 weeks for the other application to say "documents received"

Does anyone know how long it takes between "documents received" to get to the next stage? or how many stages there are after that?

I know the UK gov say allow "up to 10 weeks" for it to be processed.

Curious to know if anyone here has gone through the first time child applications recently. I know renewals are fast typically...

Next stage is "processing" which is the last step before its issued and sent.

How long seems highly variable, our app (adult renewal) was done in March and only moved to "processing" yesterday whereas others applied in April and have already received their passport.

The passport office will contact whoever verified the children's photographs so it will depend on how long it takes to get a satisfactory reply.

That should have been sorted by now?
Or do they need to contact them again?

That’s done before the documents are requested. It’s now in a queue to get examined. If every is ok it won’t take long. The delay will be if they don’t have all the information that’s needed

Ask the person if it has happened?

Hi, this is what the government said on 29 April -

    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/passport-processing-times-and-unprecedented-levels-of-demand

Ten weeks for completion after they received the application would be around 12-13 July.

They do say "the vast majority of all passport applications are being dealt with well within 10 weeks. However, a passport can only be issued once all the checks have been completed satisfactorily and will take longer if applications are submitted with missing or incomplete information."

It's just a waiting game for everyone needing a passport, unfortunately.

Do you know for a fact they need to take action twice? If not you can see in the status that they already received identity details back from them.

Update on this - I have now received one of the passports. It was approved on 31st, then printed on Friday and delivered today.

The other one is still stuck on "we've received your documents"

They only have to verify the details once - the digital referee gets an email as soon as you have completed and paid for the application.  Once they have replied you get asked to send in your documents.  Once they are received the application is in a queue to get examined.  If there is something wrong that can't be done on the online system it gets transferred to a specific office for an examine to physically look at it.  That's the process that holds up the application.

My second application is still at "we've received your documents", it's been at that stage for 3 weeks now.

My first application took less than 3 weeks to clear that stage :/
