Asbestos soil stack

Hi all. We are having a bathroom put in upstairs. Our existing soil stack is asbestos and I have found a licensed company to remove it down to ground level. However, the plumber that is installing the bathroom and new plastic soil stack would like it removed a week before he arrives as he has turned up on jobs before and the company removing it hasn't turned up and it's still there.
Is this going to create a lot of smells and is it safe to leave it open for a week. I've read that you shouldn't temporarily seal it with a cap or plastic.

You won't want foul sewage gases coming into your house for a week, so blocking the pipe off temporarily is the correct solution. These are designed for the purpose -I agree with your plumber that getting the asbestos removed in advance is best.1
