Old Tv & Sky

My parents are pensioners they can't work modern tv's. My dad has a really old tv and sky box that has worked for years anyway his tv finally packed up and I got him another old tv from gumtree. I plugged the scart lead into it from the sky box and found sky but its on channel 99

When I switch the tv off it doesn't automatically switch back on to channel 99 for sky tv how do I get this to happen?

You need to advise what TV make + model it is in order for anyone to assist you
    Sometimes I wonder...
"why is that frisbee getting bigger?"
    ...and then it hits me

Some clue as to the make/model of TV would help.

What model of TV and Sky?

If its connected with SCART rather than arial then wouldn't expect it to be on any channel number but the SCART input.

CEC is what its called these days, cannot remember if it still was in SCART days... need to check the TV and sky box both have it activated. Sometimes it could be backwards the order in which you needed to turn on the devices to make sure the TV autoswitched to the AV1 or whichever port the Skybox goes into.

    Hi,
didn't think SKY worked with scart, unless to record, think you need an rf connector.

Presume there is a SKY dish and not only a box

Sky boxes did connect via Scart.

What you need to do is change the AV input on the TV to whatever is labelled Scart input.

Thinking back to the olden days, when TVs still came with SCART sockets, they would normally automatically switch over to the SCART input whenever a set-top box was switched on.

Check that there isn't some odd setting in the TV's set up menu that disables that.

If the TV has HDMI, then that may work better.  And the picture quality could be better too.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Modern tvs are no more complicated than old tvs for basic use, in fact they can be easier as you're discovering.

Presumably they can operate the Sky box, turning on the Sky box turns the tv on, pressing and holding the power button tuns the tv off. There's nothing else needed.
