Touch up plastering after full electrical rewire

twopenny said:Alan is right. I had one wire chased in and he was horrified when I expected it filled.
Then he tried to do it with pollyfiller..
Took me less than an hour light plaster and sanding.
But I've recently had a quote from a plumber who won't do the 1ft of boxing in the pipe.
Times are changing1 -
It's an interesting point. I generally don't fill chases because I am aware that electricians cost more than plasterers if you compare the hourly rate, so if I was to routinely offer it surely I would have to be better at it than a plasterer, as I'm more expensive (which is impossible, as I'm not a plasterer)
which brings us back to the person ordering the work, surely they should know which trade they ought to employ to carry out their work in order to get the most return for their money?
I can fill chases and have done many of them, but they are all one offs and exceptions and I don't use the same tools or materials which doesn't give the same end result. in general nobody wants to employ an someone to carry out the work of another trade to a poorer standard AND have to pay more money for it! (unless they have to)2 -

Although filling in the chase is only a small amount of plastering, you can often see the marks when painted if not done properly.
I prefer to use a joint filler like Knauf fill and finish.1 -
It should be filled in 2 layers with drying between, With the first layer scraped back 3mm from flush, The Spark should be able to do that first coat with the power off in about 20min including mixing and clean up, And leave the customer to fill and sand to perfection with filler or plaster, or a decorator.Waits to be told decorators now don't know how to do filler.
