I have an electric hob and it is a nightmare, it constantly switches off when it gets to temperature and then switches back on about 10 seconds later, so things "on the boil" stop boiling and have to be brought back up to the boiling point so I fail to see how these electric hobs save money !
This thread is about 'electric induction hobs' not the 'normal' electric hobs(ceramic or plated) that have been around for 80+ years.
If you have an induction hob have you the correct pans? Otherwise I suggest your hob is faulty as a major advantage of induction hobs is their ease of heat control.
Our cooker has gas hob, electric grill and oven. A 19kg propane cylinder lasts around two years which works out about 50p per week. So for us it's really not worth worrying about cost comparison gas vs electric.
Having a fully functioning hob during power cuts is an important factor as well. Although ironically the regulator failed just a few days after power was restored last time, so we ended up using a camping stove for a couple of days even when we had power.
