Unauthorised soft search on credit check

Hi,

I've been reviewing my credit file recently as I'm looking to apply for a new mortgage.  Whilst I was reviewing it, I looked through who had done the soft searches on me.  Most were as expected such as when the car insurance is due for renewal so nothing untoward however, I did note there was one company on there who had done a soft search on me.  It was a company that lent my husband's business money that he had personally guaranteed, that subsequently made him bankrupt.   Are companies allowed to just soft search you without authorisation?  I'm just uneasy as to why they would be searching me when I have no connection to the lending, albeit married to the person they lent to and made bankrupt.

Thanks.
B

Yes, they can, depending on the reason. They're probably searching you as a financial associate. Nothing to worry about.
