Changing the Halifax reward

Hello,
I opened a Halifax reward account in March and currently get £5/month for keeping £5000 in it each day of the month. I have just discovered that NS&I have an instant access savings account which you can pay into by debit card so was wondering if Halifax would let me downgrade my reward account to a regular current account, then upgrade it again to choose the £5 for spending £500 option. If not I was thinking of downgrading my reward account, then opening a new reward account and doing it that way.

I would open a new account. I suspect if you downgraded and then upgraded the same account it would retain the original offer. You can always close the first account later if you want to clean up.2
