War widows pension and state pension

I am a little confused as veterans UK have informed me I will continue to receive my WWP and it will not affect my state pension once I reach state pension age.  However DWP have told me I will only get one, which ever is the highest.  Is this correct as I thought I would get WWP and a state pension.  Not sure who to believe.

I was under the impression that the WWP, your personal one and not an inherited war pension, could affect other benefits but not your individual state pension.  Google does not seem to offer a definitive answer either way.  The problem may have been precisely how you worded your question to the DWP, the call handlers don't generally know the answer and type the question into the computer and read what it gives out - word the question wrongly and you get the wrong answer.

Your war widow's pension is paid for life, and is in addition to your State pension.

I suspect that the DWP person you spoke to only heard 'widow's pension' and assumed that you were in receipt of State bereavement benefits, which do cease at SPA
