Euro Lock Conundrum
In 2020 the lock broke on the door and I replaced it with a Yale Thumbturn.
Worked flawlessly until a month ago, it got so stiff I couldn't turn it.
I tried a bit of troubleshooting but was nervous about not being able to lock the garage. So managed to lock it but have left it since and using the big door.
I tried to get the lock out but couldn't.
I need to resolve this, how do I know if its the lock or mechanism.
Thanks all.

To get the Euro cylinder out you need to remove the bolt in the edge of the door that holds it in place then it should pull out - possibly will need a bit of turning of the key/thumbturn.
Not sure if the mechanism is faulty or if the Euro cylinder is faulty.0 -
I had the same issue with a Yale thumbturn cylinder - worked fine until it didn't. It was very intermittent - mostly worked but occasionally didn't. I managed to get it replaced under warranty. Worth checking if your cylinder is still covered.
Not sure what to do if it's stuck though... Maybe spray some ptfe or graphite inside and try to work it until it unlocks eventually?

Take the barrel out and see if it works when free of the lock. If it seems fine when out of the lock borrow a barrel from another door to see if that works or is stiff in that mechanism.gener8or said:I need to resolve this, how do I know if its the lock or mechanism.

If you can get the screw out that holds the lock in place, you then need to turn the lock to either the 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock position, to allow it to slide out. In any other position, a little lever blocks this from happening.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Thanks all. I'm really nervous of having a door stuck unlocked and not being able to secure it. I think its the lock. Its under warranty but Yale are useless at getting back to me, takes them 10 days to reply.
Will try it to get it out0 -

It might just need lubricating.
https://yalehome.co.uk/euro-double-cylinder/
Maintenance and care of your Yale cylinder - Yale recommend regular lubrication of your Yale cylinder locks to ensure continuous trouble free performance and operation.
For this we recommend using a PTFE based lubricant. A small amount of lubricant should be applied to the key and then inserted into the cylinder. Rotate the key a couple of times in line with the normal locking function. Remove the key from the cylinder and wipe away and remaining lubricant to ensure it isn't transferred onto other objects.
