In the tax years 2020-21 and 2021-22 I claimed the £312 (£6/week) WFH allowance. Even if that's continuing, in January 2022 I moved to a job where I can't WFH. So, for 2022-23 I shouldn't be getting that allowance.

Just logged in to HMRC to check and my tax code is listed as 1288L. I'm a basic rate taxpayer (salary ~£24k with PAYE as my only income source). I believe the tax-free allowance is still £12,570, so shouldn't my code for this year be 1257L?

I'm wondering if I'm getting £12,880 instead of £12,570 because of the £300 WFH thing.

The thing is, when I click to see the details of my tax code it just lists the salary from my PAYE employer (which is correct). It doesn't list any additional expenses or anything that I can remove to change my tax code. Does anyone know if I can adjust this myself online, or do I need to sit in the queue to speak to HMRC?

I think there is an option, within the PAYE part of your Personal Tax Account, to either send a message or comment on a specific tax code entry where you could ask for it to be removed from the current years tax code.

Never mind - shouldn't have got so impatient before posting here. :)

How to change it, for anyone else in the same situation:

    Log in to HMRC
    'Check current tax year'
'Tax code: 1288L' (or whatever yours is - just click this link)
    'Check your tax free amount'

Then you'll see the components of it listed (which, yes, includes £312 expenses for me). Against each entry there's options to update/remove.

There's then a slightly confusing form to fill in that gets sent to HMRC for them to look at. If you're just doing the same as me, choose the option for "I have a tax free allowance that has ended" (I initially did "I have a tax free allowance that is incorrect").

In retrospect, it may have been easier just to phone them.  :D
