I am a dentist @SirMSE - but this is an anonymous forum where I don't have to give any proof of that whatsoever. So I frequently tell people not to take that as gospel. I could even be a 14 yr old who just googles dental stuff!

That's why I never answer specific questions on treatment, or give anything other than general advice. It's simply not possible if I've not seen the actual mouth involved, and know the person it belongs to.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Is it entirely the toothbrush?  Might the flavour of the toothpaste also come into it?  I really dislike spearmint and artificial sweeteners...
    I hadn't thought about this.
    I will think about it.
    Which brand do you use/suggest?

Only a very little is needed. For kids, just a smear on the bristles.
I aim for this, less than a pea size amount but this makes more sense. Will also take this into account.

Is 15 seconds of brushing per each quarter sufficient (using the Dr Barman brush)?

    Thank you @Toothsmith and @theoretica

    Interesting.

    Are you a textbook dentist?

There is no other way to describe a £75 toothbrush that doesn't clean teeth.

I did read a comment where someone said they had gum disease but it was a different brand of such a brush?

I personally use and like the Kingfisher (pepper)mint with fluoride - but that is simply a personal flavour preference.  Do be aware that many of the Kingfisher varieties don't have fluoride.

Ora nurse is an unflavoured , non foaming toothpaste and very good for those who are sensitive to strong flavours etc. and often recommend for autistic patients
Again another recommendation for triple headed toothbrushes. Work very well for those who tolerate tooth brushing for a short time https://www.dentocare.co.uk/dr-barman-s-superbrush-toothbrush.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwyryUBhBSEiwAGN5OCM1ntO9nstuPGcA7HYg9_bIW6yQYipc4b4U2ORt9rAxdAaEJhorGQhoCDKAQAvD_BwE

    As is @brook2jack2 , I believe.

@Toothsmith and @brook2jack2 - any foolproof tips for calming patients with LDs? Distraction techniques will only last so long, how do you build trust in the space of a few short minutes?
