Last minute hotel deals in London?

I need to stay in London overnight one night next week - an unexpected trip so I haven't been able to book into one of the big chains well in advance to get their cheaper rates, as I normally would do.  Is there any point waiting until the day before - or even the morning of my trip - to book?  Do many hotels offer last minute deals if they still have rooms available and where would be best to find these deals?

Not sure it is such a good idea to wait anymore. laterooms used to have good deals but just looking at what they had for £100-150 for next Wednesday night, I am not sure I would stay at any of them. It is of course coming up to Half Term and some jubilee event and I suspect rooms are scarcer than they have been for a long time
