Double Council Tax demands after a death - truly awful.

Lost dad 4 yrs ago and half the house was assigned to me as tenants in common with Mum. After my mum died recently I now get a CT bill for £5k dated the day after her death - twice the normal rate as its now a 'holiday home'. This is the house I was born and raised in but has no life in it now - and I live 160 miles away.…

My sister and I were on the deeds as trustees of my mums half of the house
my sister is also a beneficiary of the will
because of her being a beneficiary as well as being named on the deeds as the trustee / owner we had to pay the council tax on the house when my dad passed away .Even though the house was empty and unoccupied

Had my sister not been a beneficiary and just the trustee we would have got a discount for six months I think but because on of the people on the deeds as a trustee was also a beneficiary we had to pay the CT
