P55 Online Form - Delays?
Comments

The time HMRC take can vary. The one P55 I've seen this tax year was processed fairly quickly:11th April 2022: P55 submitted through online form through gateway account. Note at the time of submission the pension flexibility payment was already showing in the person's HMRC online tax account.12th May 2022: Refund of overpaid tax appeared in person's bank accountI came, I saw, I melted0

Mine was received 20th April, estimated completion 11th May.The original estimated completion date showing on the form tracker was about 3rd May from memory (?). It wasn't chased at all. It wasn't quite processed by HMRC by their estimated date, but yes does seem to have been processed faster than some others, don't know why.The person had also submitted a P55 in April 2021 for an early 2021/2022 flexibility payment and that was processed in roughly the same time although the refund was paid by cheque rather than direct into the person's bank account.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
Certainly not big delays across the board. I did a P55 claim early in the tax year, estimated completion was 5th May, it was delayed but money appeared in my account On 11th.However mine was a very straightforward claim. Simply a SIPP withdrawal, no other income except around £100 in bank interest, so couldn’t really have been simpler. I guess if yours is more complex then it could be delayed more.
I can’t see how ‘covid’ can be any real reason now, most these calcs can easily be done by someone working at home, and covid rates generally are pretty low anyway.0 -
I was made redundant/retired in feb 2022 I was expecting tax rebate in June 2022 only about £400 overpaid tax 2021/2022 would that be about right?21k savings no debt0

A bit tricky to know without your income details and tax already paid.otb666 said:I was made redundant/retired in feb 2022 I was expecting tax rebate in June 2022 only about £400 overpaid tax 2021/2022 would that be about right?
But if you are a basic rate payer and have 1 months of allowances unused you won't be too far off.

The ‘unlikely response’ is that they are understaffed, absolutely useless at their job, working from home, deliberately make out they can’t hear you when they answer the phone and any other number of excuses for not dealing with your query.Marcon said:
Which will simply slow down the process even more as they deal with the call. The likely response is that they are dealing with queries in the order they receive them, which is entirely fair, rather than responding to those who shout the loudest and most often.Somebody said:I think it depends on who you speak to. I would persevere and call HMRC again and ask them to check and process the refund.
OP, try https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-when-you-can-expect-a-reply-from-hmrc if you really want to cheer yourself up (not!).
’Get Real’ why on earth do you think the incompetence of the HMRC Department has got anything to do with repeat queries from people in your words ‘shout the loudest and most often’, I have been waiting nearly a year for an SAR for my NI contributions, HMRC are not fit for purpose and the sooner people like you stop making excuses for them the better for all of us. To borrow a quote, ‘There are no bad soldiers only bad officers’ the HMRC are totally incompetent from the very top to the very bottom.
For someone with 5.8k posts your patronising answer is of no help whatsoever0 -
Maybe they should have a bigger pipe then, please read my answer to Marcon, your answer like his is no help to anyone whatsoever.Thrugelmir said:The HMRC receives a bulge of tax returns in April . This year was yet another record with 66,500 self assessment forms being filed on the 6th April. A pipe can only carry so much water..........0 -
Interesting!
Just logged onto to Gov.uk and checked the progress of this.
The status has now altered and says, being processed, then processing complete.
Checked my bank account as expecting funds to go straight into here, but not there yet. Assume after processing complete there’s another process?
It’s not in my account yet so assume processing complete is not yet quite complete?0
