I have received a very strange demand letter today from EDF?

I was with Green Network Energy up until the end of November 2020, I changed to Octopus Energy at the end of November/beginning of December 2020 a couple of months before they went bust, thinking to myself that I had made a good move and just in time.

The letter from EDF today states that they took over some of the Green Network Energy accounts, fair enough but, apparently I owe them £109.74, really!!??

So, I have scrolled through my bank account statements, on the 12th of November 2020 I paid the £50 get out fee and then on the 27th of November I paid my final bill of £193.99, my first payment to Octopus was on the 14th of December 2020.

I am confident and having checked back on my statements that I owe zero.

Given how these big boy companies work how do I approach this as I can see this being a battle??

I think the best idea is if you send them a "prove it" letter.

EDF has taken over the customers after Green went bust. As you describe it you were a customer many month before that happened and you got a final bill. It would be very strange if the administrators for green hand over debt collection to EDF for former customers.

Are you sure this letter is really from EDF? Are there things like your old account number for or any details that prove that it is really at least possible that this is valid? Do contact numbers and email address match the real EDF details?

In both cases a prove it letter should get you a better idea what is going on.
