Well I am now waiting for Octopus to confirm to me that it is a smart meter and if it is, I don't see why I need to keep sending meter readings and why I don't get these readings entered by Octopus on the Gas graph on my online account.   They seem to put the electric readings on the graph but not the gas and never seem to want to explain why   :/

It's a smart meter: the Z symbol denotes the Zigbee communications standard.
Also, it seems to be connected to the comms hub (there are signal bars on the screen).
FWIW I have a very similar gas meter and it's not been sending readings to the supplier since about a month after EDF installed it, in the summer of last year. I've been giving manual readings (EDF never did anything to sort it out) but am hoping Octopus can.
Sounds like it might be a common problem.
  • There appear to be 3 versions of the Uniflo G4SZV smart meter. The G4SZV, the G4SZV-1 and the G4SZV-2. I'm guessing that the G4SZV and the G4SZV-1 are SMETS1 meters and the G4SZV-2 is the latest SMETS2 meter.
My guess would be that yours is a 1st generation SMETS1 smart meter and because it's not a Secure™ branded meter it will have reverted to being a "dumb" meter and Octopus will not be able to connect to it until it's software has been upgraded. If that's the case you will need to continue to provide manual meter readings for it until that meter software upgrade has been completed.

Well I noticed that the date on the meter which I pre-suppose is the manufacture date is 2018 so not very old really, but they have just confirmed to me that it is a smart meter so why do they keep asking me for readings and why are the meter readings not being regularly downlowded to my online account like the electricity ones are?    I just can't see why these energy companies are continually spouting how wonderful they think smart meters are if they only work intermittently.

SMETS 1 meters go up to 2019 and possibly beyond so your meter is likely to be SMETS 1.
Someone please tell me what money is

My Smets1 meter was remotely apgraded about 6 months ago and has now become smart again.

However,I'm also with Octopus and the electric is fine but the gas is very intermittent. If there's no signal at the end of the month they bill me for electric only and I have to send them a gas reading to trigger a bill.

So it does seem to be a common issue with the gas side of things. They told me they'd investigate but I never heard anything more. We have issues with mobile phones here so I wondered if it was a poor mobile signal or similar.

Who knows but what I do know is that these smart meters are not the miracle dure to wasting energy that we were told they would be, how can they be when you haven't a clue what you are using still and how it compares with previous usage with no graphs available to compare!!

'Wasting energy' - how so? I get very detailed graphs via my supplier's website and third-party Apps that show my usage in 30 minute blocks along with costs. As far as comparisons with analogue meters are concerned, how was the supplier expected to get this detailed information?

Future energy price comparisons will also be based on pulling 12 months of past import data from a smart meter. Knowing how much energy was used, and when it was used, will give consumers the cheapest time-of-use tariff.

That's just the point and why I raised this query, we are NOT getting gas meter readings on our online account unless WE send them in and then they are not inputting them to the gas graph online.   At the moment my gas graph shows no readings after 26th April, almost a month ago !!   So I have no comparisons to use to gauge what I am using.

I'm having same problem, having moved to Octopus in March. Smart meters for both fuels but they can only pick up the electric reading and I have to do gas reading manually. The IHD does show gas use daily/weekly/monthly but I prefer graphs.

I installed the Bright app someone on here recommended and can now see graphs of how much I've used each 30 minutes, day etc. although no tariff stats. Helps a bit.
