Were you on Green energy? You might be able to get a refund...

Customers on Green Energy last year, who were transferred to Shell Energy when they stopped trading, were sent an email late notifying them of a price change...
Specifically, search your inbox for an email from Shell Energy on April 7th 2022 titled "londons_explorer, your energy rates have changed". That email notifies you of a rate change *in the past*.
Unfortunately for Shell Energy, they needed to give 30 days notice of this, as required by Ofgem and their own Terms of service, clause 11.4:
If your contract has a variable price tariff and we raise your prices or make a change to this contract that puts you at a disadvantage, then unless clause 11.6 applies, we will let you know in writing at least 30 days ahead of the change taking effect
So I recommend you start the complaints process to get a refund. You should be able to get a refund of at least 37 days of gas price difference, which isn't anything to sniff at!
Start at their complaints page (that I can't link to, but google will find it), and write something like:
You emailed on April 7th 2022 saying '' Our prices have changed" and "this change has taken place automatically.". Unfortunately it appears I was not given 30 days notice, as required by Ofgem and your own Terms of service, clause 11.4.
I propose your breach of our contract, and the resulting financial hardship and emotional distress, be remedied by a credit to my account of £200. Alternatively, please let me know how else you propose to resolve this matter.

Not sure if £200 is the right amount to ask for, but it's slightly over the extra money they've been billing for those 37 days. Perhaps I could ask for more... I dunno!
