Is this Victorian pipe gas, or water?

Can you poke a torch and mirror or camera down where you have taken the floorboard up to see where the pipe goes and if it meets anything?

Not my area of experience but does that new gas supply and socket meet regulations about separation?

Do you mean that the right-hand gas pipe is close to the plug socket?   In that case the answer is that it's only looked like that for the past few days.   When the gas guy disconnected the hob that was above it, he also took off and discarded a length of piping. Then when I get a new dual-fuel cooker, I imagine he'll have to add a section of pipe to connect it up.

The plug socket is pretty vital as it will be where this new dual fuel cooker plugs in, so hope it's still allowed!   The electrician who was just round said so long as it's under 3 Kw, I'll be fine plugging it in.  There isn't a dedicated cooker circuit however so he did say I wouldn't be able to have an electric hob (don't want one anyway, thankfully!).

Theres a new gas pipe to the right of it, did the GSR guy not check it whilst there?

He didn't see it because he was just removing the hob that was on the counter above the right-hand piping.   It wasn't till I took out the old worktop and units and smashed through the plasterboard into the alcove that I discovered the older pipe.

The gas guy is coming back on Monday to deal with it :).

Good idea, but when I tried taking photos I just saw a pipe receeding into the distance!   Can only imagine that it connects to the mains gas supply on the other side of the room.

There wasn't a radiator in this room until I had one fitted until recently.  So as someone said earlier it's quite likely that the old pipe was once connected to a gas-powered fire that's long since gone.
