Motorcycle insurance recommendations

Hi all,
I need to get my boss's motorcycle insured and don't know anything about it.

What is the advantage of going with a specialist bike insurer (such as Carole Nash, Bennetts, etc) over the usual companies?

Also, I'm assuming the specialists will be more expensive, is that true?

If anyone had any recommendations, I'd be happy to hear them.
Thanks!

Specialists will generally claim to be cheaper

If you know nothing about bikes I am not sure who you think the "usual companies" are? The number of options are notably lower than it is for car insurance with far fewer direct insurance options

I was just thinking of Aviva, Admiral, etc... like I say, I don't know anything about it!

How are you going to answer all the questions if its not your bike?

I found Bennets/Carol Nash generally cheaper when I had bikes, although I always ended up switching each year as the renewal quote was always more expensive than the other one gave me for a new policy!  (Don't think that would happen now with the new regulations)

Make sure you mention any modifications, including aftermarket panniers/topbox or kits to higher/lower the seat height.

Go on compare sites & enter details just the same as you do with a car....

I've sent him a list of the typical questions and told him it's up to him if he wants to give me the answers or do it himself. Obviously we don't want to give incorrect answers so would go through them all and make sure I've entered the correct information.

For my modern bike I used Gocompare and ended up with Carole Nash.

My old stuff is with Footman James.

Which is the worry because Admiral doesn't write Motorbike insurance and whilst I think Aviva does they dont on a direct basis so of the two insurers you were going to compare to then neither will quote you... unless you are a PA that has to do absolutely everything for your Exec boss then this is one to pass on
