Flies damn Flies

We seem to have perpetual problem of flies.  Had a terrible time last year with literally thousands. We used Red Top Fly catcher and change it every few months or when it is full.  It works really well!  Inspite of all the efforts, we still get flies inside the house.   I have had experience with the aluminium chain links in the past and they do work but still find flies inside the house, especially when its breezy.

We tend to leave the kitchen/diner door (double door) and the patio door open(large bifold door) for a nice cross breeze.

Has anyone gone down the route of installing insect mesh doors or have this done professionally rather than DIY.

We have Streme pet screens fitted to our patio doors and most windows.  Primarily to keep our house cat safe (and us cool) but they also have the benefit of keeping insects out.

They do fly screens as well, which presumably have a lighter mesh.  The pet screen mesh is strong enough to take the weight of a full grown cat using her claws as crampons.

We bought ours as made to measure, but if your diy skills are up to it they also do kits.

I saw a video today that suggested half filling a clear plastic bag with water, adding a few coins to it and hanging it up in the doorway or window. Not an aesthetic approach but the logic is flys dont like water so avoid it. Their eye design detects the coins and amplifies the number of them and it dazzles them, add to that that the bag looks like a wasps nest to them, the flys stay clear. Only tied this afternoon so will see! Also, make sure everything is clean. No dog poo in the garden or dead rats under the shed, leaky bins etc, it all attracts flys.

What type of flies are they? Just checking you mean big buzzy ones and not the small ones that live in house plants? :)

Whilst out walking yesterday evening it was particularly bug-y I noticed. Not so much flies but critters that fly, bite etc and I could see others were bothered by it too.

Just saw fly screens in lidl.
I've used magnetic ones that stick around the door. That worked best but was irritating going through th overlap.
I've got string curtains over the doors in summer. Doesn't keep them all out as the breeze lifts them but easy to get through.
    Large lavender plants deter them.
    Where are they coming from?
My neighbour has her bins by our adjoining fence with my kitchen door the other side.
Last house I was over the road from a family who had overflowing bins in the front garden.

    Thank you all.
We live in semi rural area and no idea where the flies come from.  Just an explosion in numbers when it warms up!
All kinds of flies - house fly, blue bottle including flesh fly.
@twopenny I tried the magnetic and the chain link ones in our old house and other than inconvenience us it had no effect on the flies.  The magnetic one was a really cheap make.

I have had a quote from a company £1200 for the double door and £2500 for the 3m wide bifold door.  Will wait for a few more.

I might litter the garden with Red top fly traps - its around 10/unit and can catch loads but a bit stinky!

There used to be a multi store called Chaplins in Taunton(now closed) and they had the fly screen doors like the ones we had in Australia.
    So they must be around.
That would only be the standard sized door.
