Eon sometimes put random "meter reader" figures in.  We've had them appear, and we know they aren't, as ours are behind a locked gate!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    Gas meter is presumably new.

    Been there for 3 months

Wonder if the meter records are wrong and the "computer" still thinks its the old meter and had gone around the clock

I suspect the rogue gas meter reading is causing the problem. You would have thought this could be flagged so it's not used in any DD calculation. Have you checked the T&C's of your tariff to see if the only payment option if monthly DD.

Also meter readings below, usage is low and consistent:
Going by the last two months I'd categorise your electricity use as high rather than low I'm afraid but it would depend on what you use your gas for? I'm going to assume that the 'Meter reader' value on 12/02/22 was an error that was corrected but in pursuing this with EOn you I'd check this isn't causing a mis-calculation somewhere.

The data you've shared doesn't support a monthly direct debit of over £900 though!

  • I've called them up, they've refused to change it saying they can't. I asked for a variable direct debit to collect the full bill instead each month, and they've said I also can't do that because of the tariff I'm on. They can move me to a much more expensive fix (I'm already on a 2 year fix at somewhat reasonable prices) that allows payment in full each month.

Found the link to the DD document attached (although it was a convoluted path to get there).  You will find it under Help > Bills and Payments > All our Billing and Payments FAQ (at the bottom of page) leads to Understanding Your Bills and Payments page > Manage Your Direct Debit.  Hope this helps if you still want to gothe VDD route with Eon Next.  I am on a 1 year fix ATM ending on October 1st 2022

  • Thanks for all the input so far guys. To answer and clear up a few things that have been mention a few times:
    • E.On is only billing me to the smart reads, so the weird "meter reader" reads look to be ignored. Nobody has ever read the meter other than me, as it's indoors.
    • Gas usage is low as it's only used to supply a range cooker. Leading me nicely onto...
    • ...The house is heated by electricity, as is the hot water. The winter averages seen so far look like high usage but that won't be the case as it's now warmer.
Current electricity consumption is around 6-8 kWh a day, and a huge drop from the daily 20+ kWh averages seen over winter so bare that in mind. They might not be too far off with their £108 monthly low-ish ballpark. I'd say anything up to £150 monthly would be reasonable - Not £930.

Now importantly someone said to check a bill for what averages their working to? I found it and it says annualised consumption is based on 38,859 kWh - This is the issue then, as they think I'll use this much each year?

As said on here before put in £109 or £108.15 as it says you can't reduce. Try that first and let us know
