Morning all, we have some weak sunshine after lots of heavy rain from 4pm yesterday. Seems we may have the same concoction today too.
I got on well yesterday and the first coat went on quickly but I noticed the paint was thinner than I remember. It was a new tin and I'd bought my usual brand ( the one with the D. dog ) but now it seems of a much thinner consistency. They want you to use 2 coats with 6 hrs in between so the 2nd will go on this morning. I also did all the varnishing of the shelving unit etc yesterday and that's all ready to go back in too but it will have to wait until the flooring has gone down, it's only an offcut and I'll have to get that out of built in cupboard and lie it flat today.
If it's still dry this afternoon I want to plant 4 dianthus which have been waiting patiently in a box on the patio. There's a honeysuckle flailing about like a windmill so I'll tie that in too. My Mrs Bradshaw has 5 flowers on it now and my newly planted climbing rose has a big yellow flower on it, lovely. Everything seems to be coming to life with the all rain followed by sunshine, or vice versa but annoyingly I also have a glut of weeds. 🤨 Perhaps if I ignore them they'll disappear ?
YorksLass what a lovely delivery driver !
Hope everyone has a goodish day.
Take care and hugs to anyone in need, especially the poorly Mums and DGC.

Hi everyone,
Taking advantage of a quiet house, Esben is at nursery (settling in so will be back soon), Laura is on a work call, Steve is at Chris and Crystal's with the cat and Brian is walking Ziggy.
It was so hot yesterday we took her out late and just managed to avoid the worst of the rain. Esben spent most of the walk running full pelt and when we got back he was so tired we just put him to bed without his normal bath. He's decided that now is the time to stop wearing a nappy and he has been very good, we've only had a couple of small accidents but Ithink that has been using some of his energy as well.
Laura is going to meet an old friend later, he's Swedish, lives in Brussels with his Finnish wife and their two children who are both fluent in French, Finnish and English and for all I know a couple of other languages too.
Anyway, I shall go, I want to get a bit of sewing in before the young master returns.
Dp1, I shall be checking for news with fingers crossed.
Taff, how annoying that the windscreen incident took the gloss off the new car.10 -

Went down to mam and dads this morning for a cuppa and to check if their £150 had been paid into the bank because 'everyone else has it!' It had been so I paid it into their electric/gas account.
Then I walked down to Farmfoods for loo rolls - may have also bought 4 bars of mini egg chocolate bars but they were 50p each and I'm poorly so I think they count as an essential purchase! Probably money saving too...
Popped into Homebase which is next door to look for some more plants and they had these lovely 'Country Living' flowering buckets - lovely pastel coloured metal containers complete with compost and seed - they were reduced to £1! I got a couple of big ones which had been £14.95 and 4 smaller ones which had been £9.95.
I was so happy with my bargain - I'll take a couple down to go at my mam's front door. They were selling very quickly - if I'd been 10 minutes later I would have missed them.
The only thing is the buckets have no drainage holes - does anyone know if I can put holes into metal pots?
No news on little one yet other than she's still being monitored - DD sent a message saying they'd been changed to a different room and have an awful phone signal. Will hopefully hear more later x

Lovely colour Gers.Dp1, yes you can, just drill some in. I'd probably be tempted to drill at the sides about an inch up rather than the bottom, that way, it will always have a little reserve of water.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8

I've now cut the grass and weeded!

Afternoon all. After heavy rain last night - and a bit of thunder thrown in - today has been fairly sunny from the outset and warm. I've been to the pharmacy for DH's meds but sadly mine weren't ready
so that means another trip out. I did ask if I could wait for them being made up, but no. Oh well, it will be a bit more free exercise!
I got a pack of chicken legs (x4 large ones) and a tray of chicken drumsticks (x10 medium sized ones) in yesterday's delivery at £1.79 a pack - good value - and have portioned / re-wrapped / frozen them today and for once didn't have to wrangle them into the freezer drawer.I took out some cooked and sliced gammon for tonight's salad while I was in there and have cooked the last few baby potatoes for potato salad. Just one small eating apple to use up and that's all the "bits" gone.
I've been listening to Steve Wright on Radio 2 and he was playing some good oldies that took me right back to my younger, more care-free years. Alas, spoiled by the news headlines, especially the bit that inflation now stands at 9%.
Last night a neighbour kindly gifted me some (unused) knitting yarn that she'd been given by her mum who was having a clear out. She doesn't knit but knows I do, so passed it on. It's a lovely ruby red in 4 ply cotton yarn and there's enough to make a short sleeved cardigan. I did offer her some money to give to her mum but she said no, so next time I bake a cake I'll make an extra one for her mum.Oh dear, nmlc, it seems you’re too accommodating! I think I might have been tempted to not turn up at the other office - after all, if no-one actually told you of the new arrangements how could you be expected to know?
Nels, I’m so pleased to hear your mum’s leg ulcers have healed - they’re such nasty, often painful things and very tricky to treat. Just need to get her eating a bit more but that’s not as easy as it sounds when her appetite is lacking.
Hang on in there Izzy, the new log burner will be fab when it’s installed and up and running. Don’t envy you the mess though!
Wow, that’s one heck of a lot of soft plastic, -taff!
Poor little one, dp1. The spots in themselves are bad enough but in her mouth could be even more distressing.
I think you’re right, nanny, paint does seem to be thinner these days but you’re making good progress with the decorating and you’ll be pleased with the end result, I’m sure.
I hope TA is enjoying her break and hasn’t been washed away!
Take care all, stay well and safe. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
Taff - thanks - when I took the cardboard wrapping off the pots had drainage holes in.
Gers - well done!6
