Hey all - has anyone kept their packaged bank account while in a DRO (I know they aren't popular, but mine really does save me money on insurances and breakdown cover)? Or been successful in gaining one after being discharged from their DRO?  Thank you.

Hi, have you contacted one of the free debt help agencies?  National Debtline, Citizens Advice, StepChange.

I had a DRO a few years ago and I arranged it all through StepChange.    https://www.stepchange.org/

They really can answer all your questions but when I entered a DRO I had to change my bank account because some of my debt was the overdraft on my current account and was part of the DRO. I had to have a basic current account and even when the DRO was discharged my bank wouldn't upgrade me to an account that had any overdraft (or any other) facility for years. I switched banks but still don't have an overdraft facility and don't need one.

You may be able to keep your account but you can discuss it with one of the debt help agencies - you have nothing to lose by contacting one of them.

Good luck - for me, a DRO was literally a lifesaver and StepChange were so very helpful, without any judgement.

Thank you so much for your reply.  I have started the ball rolling with StepChange today and will be asking the question regarding the bank account.  Luckily, I don't owe my actual bank anything in overdraft or loan or credit card.
