PIP boiler grant confusion
Hi,
I'm trying to help out an older neighbour who's got a bit too much on her plate as a carer at the minute. As the title suggests, we're both a bit confused about how to get her boiler replaced. Its been condemned so definitely needs doing (she's had a good 25 years out of it!). She's retired and her husband isn't well and is in receipt of personal independence payments. I've done some reading but seem to be getting contrasting answers. Some say your energy company has to do it (she's with Octopus) some say any energy company can do it. I'm struggling to find anything online though.
Has anyone got experience of doing this recently that can point us in the right direction? She's got quite a big house so she needs a bigger than average boiler (minimum 30kw, preferably 35kw) as she's got 17 rads and 3 bathrooms.
Where does she need to apply and whats the best way to start the process?
Many thanks

If you are in England this is usually a good placce to start https://www.simpleenergyadvice.org.uk/grants
What is the existing heating/dhw system - regular boiler or combi?
They will probably also have to upgrade the controls (they'll pay for themselves over the life of the boiler) &, if not already fitted, fit TRVs to rads.1 -
Thanks. Yes in England.BUFF said:If you are in England this is usually a good placce to start https://www.simpleenergyadvice.org.uk/grants

Part of the problem will be that the ECO3 scheme is ending to be replaced by ECO4, which takes a fabric first approach, so insulation before heating.
I had my gas central heating fitted in February and it was funded (and arranged) by E.ON. I don't think you had to have them as your supplier but I happen to have.1 -
Programmer & thermostat. If their existing controls are as old as the boiler then, like most things, things have moved on in 25 years offering improved efficiencies (e.g. load/weather compensation when used with modern modulating boilers) & hopefully, usability.JamesN said:When you say controls, do you mean the thermostat?1 -
Thanks. Just heard back from a couple places and apparently all the funding has gone for ECO3 now. Any idea if there will be any boiler element to ECO4? Seems we are out of options for now. Octopus basically told me to google some grants but wary there will be a lot of rip off merchants trying to say you're getting a good deal when really they're probably pocketing the grant and charging you what you would have paid without it.stewie_griffin said:Part of the problem will be that the ECO3 scheme is ending to be replaced by ECO4, which takes a fabric first approach, so insulation before heating.
