I've not seen any recent timescales for postal backlogs, but I suspect they'll be massive - they were talking several months a while back, and I doubt they'll have decreased since them.0

I have a rather specific quwery if anybody can help.My wife has three gaps in her national insurance contributions which she is considering paying. We get child tax credits and pension contributions are deductable from your earnings when they calculate your credits. Would voluntary national insurance contributions be applicable to that? Thanks.

Apologies, it feel like bumping in the middle of someone's conversation by submitting a new comment which is totally unrelated to the previous one.
I just wanted to ask for an advice please.
My friend (basic English but gets by) works on a recycling site. He has called HMRC line four times now, each time waiting time exceeds 50mins. First he got disconnected, the rest they hung up on him saying the line quality is bad because he's outside. Well, yes, there is no onsite office there - only toilet which is not less noisy.
The question is... is there any other way to get that 18 digit number or delegate someone to call on his behalf?..
Before you tell him off for waiting for the deadline... he genuinely was unaware of such possibility to top up the years. It's only because I've mentioned it to him (in turn I was not aware myself until getting MSE email).0 -
The only way to get the reference is on the phone. He can send a cheque in the post though.

So after paying through my digital banking on Wednesday I logged into my gov gateway today to see if there was an update yet on my national insurance record.
I know it can take up to 8 weeks but thought I would check anyway.
I sent a payment which was to pay for the years 2009 to 2010, 2010 to 2011 and 2017 to 2018.
The year 2017 to 2018 has been updated so that it now says Full year. However, 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011 still both say Year is not full.
Is it just a case of wait and they will update them eventually over the coming weeks separately? Or is this something that should have been done in the one go and they have made an error?
I cannot phone up again because it costs too much and have already had to give my mum £30 to cover the cost of the phone bill. If I have to contact them then I could do it through the post?
