Unsure what to do now with tradesman

Hi there, I'll try keep it short.

Had a new driveway and rear patio fitted. Paid almost all but £200 of the money as he was only due to come back to clean pavers covered in compo. In that time, after finding various defects, some quite big ones he was due to return to finish. But after being let down by him 3 times (various excuses but after 2 months after seeing him), he came today and was meant to rectify all of them. 

But he hasn't. From checking his work further today I have found that the channel drain that runs along the back of my house isn't actually draining anywhere and stagnant shower water ( which used to go into a gulley but has been blocked up) 

I had already sent a formal letter of complaint but I have no faith in him coming back to complete the work properly. I've spoken to CAB who stated he is within his right to return to rectify work but how can I know he will do it correctly after messing it up again?! I have not messaged him yet - partly due to waiting for partner to come back and partly because he has been quite nasty on messages.

I'm quite embarrassed by all of this, any help would be much appreciated.

Is he a well established and reputable trader that you can track down, or some guy called John you just have a mobile number for?

We had a new steep driveway built once, which had a pretty stepped wall to display plants on.  The builder said we didn’t need to pay a single penny upfront, only had to pay when we were happy.

As you can imagine he did a superlative job and although it was quite expensive it was worth every penny.  We recommended him to many people.
