FYI
In the post this morning, I've received a letter from VCS saying that Elms Legal are no longer acting on their behalf and that further correspondence needs to be sent to the VCS office in Sheffield.
Is that a significant development?
Along with it is an offer of a reduced settlement that I can pay if I want it to go away, LOL.

Can only think they are trying to unsettle and confuse a Defendant.
Don't be phased by it.3 -
Quick question: Methods of returning N180 are non-specific on the posts I've been reading. e.g. "You must complete this by the date given, and send it back to Northampton, with a copy to the other side "
There doesn't appear to be an email route listed on the paperwork from the court, even though I know what the court's email address is, and there is an email address for communication with VCS. So is the recommendation to not use email and to send via recorded delivery?
Thanks in advance.0 -
Methods of returning N180 are non-specific on the posts I've been readingNot sure where you've been reading, but the Defence Template Announcement's first post, points 8, 9, 10 and 11 cover this part of the process fully. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Thank you @Umkomaas
I have so many tabs open from this forum in Chrome I get lost sometimes, and despite having seen that post multiple times before, managed to lose it. I acknowledge that us newbies must be a cause of frustration sometimes, but I am very grateful for your quick response and your patience.

Responding to the new question about an 'On the papers' hearing (new question D1), I encountered an additional complication.
Using the draft wording from this thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/79267087/#Comment_79267087
I found that filling in the form on the hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.uk website:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1079639/N180_Final_Form.pdf
that the form would accept all the draft wording for D1. However, there was no way to sign the form while filling it in from the gov website. So, downloading it from the gov website it will keep your changes/edits as a download form - that I can then open in Acrobat - but the ability to edit it - i.e. to sign it - has been removed.
If I download the blank N180 form I have full ability to edit it, including signing, but the field for the 'if No, please state why not' has a reduced capacity and won't accept the character count from the draft wording. This is all I could fit in as an edit. Have I focused on the right elements?
'On the papers' seems to disproportionately give an advantage to the claimant because they are a firm who pursues parking cases for a living. I feel strongly that I need a voice at an attended hearing. I wish to question the Claimant about their evidence at a hearing and to expose omissions and any misleading or incorrect evidence or assertions. The Claimant would doubtless prefer the only true witness not to speak.

Looks perfect! Here's a similar short version this poster did earlier this year:

Read right to the end of their thread...they've just won because the claim was discontinued. Nice!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks @Coupon-mad
It's great that they discontinued, but part of me wants them to lose in court!0 -
FYI.
Directions Questionnaires emailed today 10th November. I've emailed copies to the local county court and the County Court Business Centre. As well as to the Claimant.
Auto acknowledgements received from both the county court and the CCBC, and also from Vehicle Control Systems.
Thanks again for everyone's help. I'll keep you abreast of what happens next.
