It's a pain that the only real number everybody knows is the 54% and everything else you have to find in odd tables and calculate yourself.

You need an air vent in any room with gas, so a vent blowing cold air 24/7 may wipe out much of the savings, With Electric you can then seal up all the old vents for a warmer home.
AFAIK modern boilers are room sealed so there wouldn't be much of a draught from the vent.
It seems any modern glass fronted fire place is also a balanced flue fire, so no need for a outside room vent. But Gas stoves and ovens still need them, And the Gas Meter itself in case of a leak.

I recommend getting an air fryer. I rarely use my oven or grill now as the air fryer is smaller, heats up much quicker and is much cheaper to run. It does a brilliant job!

Thanks for all your answers, plenty to think about.

I'd honestly thought that an electric oven on 200-200 celsius would cost 50p-75p an HOUR to operate.  So £130-£195 a year, if using it for 5 hours a week all year round.    I'd be happily surprised if they weren't in fact so expensive.  I have to concede I never calculated the figures, I just noticed my electricity smart meter device would be a pound or two higher for the day if I'd been roasting anything.

I actually currently don't have an extractor fan in the kitchen.    It has high ceilings (8 foot I think) and a large sash window, so I just open the window when I'm cooking, and if need be I have a floor fan that can push air towards the window.   The combi boiler is also in this room, with the flue of course venting to the outside wall above the window.

So... Will look into getting the gas hob repaired and making more use of the microwave's oven function for now.  Plus look into an air fryer.

I've been in the habit of using my Tefal grill to toast bread, too, since I don't have a toaster.  Think that is likely more expensive too, and also crushes the bread...
