Travel insurance / package holiday

Hi all, I have a query I wondered if anyone could help me with. I have a package holiday booked with my parents and my sister but I am going to be unable to go due to illness. I have travel insurance but was unsure if I’d be able to claim on this due to the holiday being booked as a package with them? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, there is no reason why not. You will need a cancellation invoice, medical evidence and proof that you paid your parents in the first place, or paid direct to the company if that was how you did it

Why would there need to be proof they paid their parent's @Alan_Bowen? Even if the holiday was a gift you can still insure it

You cannot claim a refund if you didn't pay anything in the first place, as there is no loss. They are cancelling before travel not during it.

Yes there is a loss... you've lost the holiday which had a financial value equivalent to what the giver paid for it @Alan_Bowen or do you think no wife in the world can insure their engagement ring because they were presents from their (ex)husbands and so they didn't pay for them?

Where there is a loss that is insured -  the Insurance company  will likely ask for a receipt / or invoice or some other written proof of the value of the loss. Otherwise claimants could make up a value - claiming £xxx when they only actually paid £ xx.
Check the T&Cs of your policy to see what they cover and what they require as proof of the amount due .
