Travel insurance and not declaring pre existing conditions

Can I do that but I understand I will not be able to claim on pre existing conditions? My pre existing conditions are stable and do not forsee any problems in the future and I do not want to declare if possible but want to have general insurance covers for cancellation, Covid etc. Or I need to declare them and decline to be insured for them. Thanks

Some companies will consider the policy is not valid if you not declare them. Others will let you exclude them. You need to check out companies to find one that will cover what you want.

CIDRA allows them to void the policy if there is an intentional or reckless non-declaration even if irrelevant to a claim so not worth the risk... plent of insurers allow you to exclude existing conditions if you want and then no risk of anything else resulting in a void policy
  • Any good comparison sites that let you exclude conditions?

I would never risk it. You consider your pre-existing conditions to be stable and do not foresee any problems but sadly like the rest of us you cannot see into the future. The point of declaring existing conditions is that if anything happens to you overseas and you have declared your conditions, you will be able to claim for costs of any hospital treatment and repatriation and in the very worst case scenario, someone will be able to claim the costs of repatriation of your body. We've all heard of cases where people are taken ill on transport to and from their holiday. Someone has to pay for the care given.

In my opinion it's total madness not to declare any pre-existing conditions. Simply because you just never know what is going to happen. And in some countries the cost of medical care is astronomical. If I couldn't afford the appropriate insurance, I'd not bother travelling at all. I also have  pre-existing conditions.

Better to be safe than sorry. I'd rather lose all my luggage than have to find large sums of money just because I'd tried to save money by having inadequate insurance cover. Not worth it.

Non-declaration is a very high risk strategy.  What do you do if it is necessary to claim and the insurer won't pay out because of non-declaration?  Do you have the money to pay possibly many thousands of pounds before or during treatment, and for costs of getting you back home?

You can declare a condition and opt not to have it covered- if you don’t declare it you can void all medical cover which isn’t a good idea! A family member had a claim for £40k for something unrelated to previous condition, she was only in hospital 2 days.
I’ve been using trailfinders for a group trip and have found their policy screening tool good as it gives you the opt in cost upfront https://www.policyscreening.com/trailfinders/. I don’t work for them or anything just found it useful!

Cancellation is most likely to be linked to a medical condition , policies won't cover change of mind

I use staysure , pre existing conditions covered unless you are awaiting diagnosis or still under treatment. Years policy for 2 of us surprisingly cheap. COVID is covered

  • They have full access to your medical records.
Underwriters are trained worms who exist with the sole intention of getting out of paying.
If you don't declare, they will have you for breakfast unfortunately.
They will even have records of any previous disclosures to other insurers also.

What really annoys me with insurers these days is, at one time back in the day, they would insure you for pre existing conditions, if you had proven there was no reoccurrence within 4 or 5 years, but these days it appears pre existing lives with you forever.

Thanks, will declare the pre-existing conditions and opt for them not to be covered rather than not declaring them at all. Without your permission they cannot access your medical records.

That's odd, in most insurers underwriters dont have anything to do with 99% of claims where the decision to pay or not is made.
