Income declaration

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the correct board to post my question,  so I am sorry for it's wrong.

My friend is regularly playing betting in william hills website, yesterday after he did some funds transfer to his account to cover the betting and when the money transfer is completed he got a message saying that he needs to do income declaration within 72 hours,  he is confused what this mean and why this was asked to him, and if he should contact the bank or the HMRC or william hills, because the message he got has no further details.

Any advice or help is much appreciated please.

Thank you

Do you mean that your friend received a text that gave no indication at all of who it was from?  That sounds highly scammy, and if it contained some dodgy link even more so, so ignoring would definitely be an option as far as I'm concerned, but if you have any more details of exactly what the message said (screenshot, redacted if necessary would help) then worth sharing them to get some more informed guidance, otherwise it's just guesswork....

    Thank you for your reply.

The message showed in the same page of the transfer transaction,  it showed below the " your transfer was successful " in big bold writing.

How was he transferring the funds - was this a faster payments transfer from his current account via app or online banking, or initiated via another method?  If the former, and the message displayed was obviously from his bank, then he should ask them what it means if it wasn't clear to him....

The funds was transferred through his William hills account page by using his debit card.
Do you please know what income declaration mean ?

    Thank you

So was this on the banks site or William Hills?

Sounds like someone wants proof of income. Could be they are spending a lot on betting in that case William Hill would want proof that they can afford to gamble that much.
Gambling companies can end up in trouble if letting someone with a low income gamble too much.

From a quick Google search for 'William Hill asking for income declaration', I got this:

    https://www.olbg.com/bookmakers/articles/why-bookmakers-ask-for-proof-funds
    Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.

    On Williams hills site.

Yes he said that he did a lot of betting this week,  but usually he use the money he wins to cover the next betting and just a few times he had to add funds from his bank account.

Thank you so much for all your replays

What was the value of the funds transfer?
    Sounds like money laundering prevention.

The worst thing that could happen is William Hill could freeze his account and, maybe, that's not such a bad thing.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
