I am due to travel to the US at the end of June but my Covid passport is in a different name to my actual passport. I never had my name changed by deed poll or anything so my passport is in my original surname but since the age of 11 I took on the surname of my stepfather and have since got all my bank accounts, nhs documents etc in that name. I am now worried about travel to the US, and don't want to be turned away from my flight as I'm going out for my sisters wedding. Someone said that the doctor can change my covid passport to the name on my passport, but I don't want to do that as it will probably interfere with my working tax credits and PIP. Is there any other way I can travel, I don't have the time to get my passport changed because of the delays and I was wondering if I could do a change of name deed, getting it signed by 2 people that have known me most of my life. Or even an also known as document, if there is such a thing, I would appreciate any advice, time is ticking!

Your covid passport will always match the name on your doctor’s surgery registration.
so you either need to change your name at your surgery or travel with proof that you are the same person as your documents.

How do you think changing your name would effect your benefits?
Lots of people change their names, i did when i married, benefits carried on as normal.

@aggietracIf I have understood correctly- your passport and birth certificate have the same name - but your NHS records , bank accounts and benefits are in a different surname ?  How did you set up bank accounts if your proof of ID was in a different name ?

For travel to US you will need your Covid Pass to prove your vaccination status  - and it will need to match the name on your passport and ESTA - I don’t see how changing your name by deed poll will help - but yes you do need the Dr to change the name so that your Covid pass matches your passport ( and presumably your tickets and ESTA) .

Thanks everyone, I have asked the doctor to change my name and the receptionist took a photocopy of my passport about 10 days ago, but the name hasn't been changed yet. How long does it take to change?

Should be 24 hours from whenever your surgery update your record.
