Has anyone paid £82 and registered with OPG directly thus saving a considerable amount of money by not using solicitors, legal experts and so on? If so, did you find the process straightforward/how easy was it?

Yes, as long as you double check everything is signed and in the right order. Parent missed signing one page and had to choose between leaving one preference off or paying another fee and starting again.Family member with more complicated affairs went the solicit route because the implications of getting it wrong were too much of a risk. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I agree with Elsien. A tip we were given was date everything the same date so no risk of getting it wrongLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0

First of all, don't be put off by the size of the document you receive. There are a lot of questions that you don t have to fill in. i.e go to page 14 when you've just filled in something on page 10. I was scared when I first saw it, in fact I put it back in the envelope and said to myself, I'll look at it another day. However, I eventually returned to filling it in, took my time, and sent it off, totally convinced it would be returned as I'd missed something or similar. It took months for it to be returned, then out of the blue, a request for the payment. There is a reduced fee for those who earn less than £12000 per year, the fee is halved actually. The advice from another post re the date all being the same is something to be aware of. I just waited until it was finally complete and filled the date in then.0

I did it myself for my aunt and the dates are the key factors.Read and re-read the instructions to be clear what order the various pages have to be signed and dated on.Other tip, my aunt had used a biro that didn't immediately start writing so her signature could have looked like it was altered.I had to contact the lady in charge to resolve it as we were in lockdown by this point and I lived a couple of hundred miles away.I am delighted to say when you get high enough up the hierarchy you suddenly start finding common sense prevails and we got there but it took months because the OPG was seriously behind in dealing with applications.Good luck.I would do it myself again if needs be so don't worry just take your time and be careful.

Yes it's really easy, if you do it online you can do a trial run of an LPA which you can then delete and start again, do it as many times as you want. When you are happy with the final version(s), print it/them off, get it signed and send it off to OPG.Any queries/questions whilst you are doing it just ask here, lots of us have done it without the need for a solicitor, honestly it was easier than I thought.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
