My 90 yr old mother lives alone in a rural area and rarely makes phone calls as she watches every penny.
She's needing a "cheap" plan with BT, if there is such a thing.

Hi, BT does actually do a cheap package - and other providers might also do the same - but either you or your mother would be better off phoning BT and asking what they can offer. I'm with BT and that always works for me. If it's possible for you to phone BT from your mum's she can then confirm that you have permission to discuss her account. I've did this for my neighbour who also used her landline rarely but didn't want to be without a phone in case of emergency. (I did once suggest that she get a cheap mobile phone but she really didn't understand that concept at all.)
BT plans and packages always seem to be changing so it's best to phone, I've always found that to be the case, anyway.
