Fixed Tarrif? In this economy?

First time poster here.
An Ovo salesperson host came to the house hoping to get his slice of commission.
He said Ovo are offering a fixed tarrif (he wouldn't tell me what it was) that brings the "average medium house" to 284 a month. And it's locked for 2 years
60 exit fee per fuel, but also said you can switch to variable internally and then you can leave without fees

What are we thinking? Are fixed tariffs coming into early? Should we still hold out?
If October comes and the prices goes up again maybe this fixed tarrif is worth it...

Any doorstep salesman that say approx andd average and only lists a monthly amount is a potential hazard.

What you really need is the actual kWh rates and standing charges of the deal they were offering and to know your yearly usage.

May not even be from Ovo, could well be just a chancer acting on his own.  Or, even worse, someone casing the joint.
Never deal with a cold caller on the doorstep unless you're sure they're clearly genuine, such as a poppy seller.

It's hard to be sure (due to the lack of detail) but if the "average medium house" is the same as Ofgem's "average dual-fuel customer" Ovo's fixed rate of £284/month, £3408/yr, could be compared to the Ofgem variable tariff cap, crrently £1971/yr.
Ovo's offer is almost 73% higher than the Ofgem cap.
